We have fallen ill through sin, let us heal through repentance. But repentance without fasting is powerless. Then, improve yourself before God, through fasting (St. Basil the Great).

In the first week of the Great Lent, His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir traditionally reads out the Great Canon of St. Andrew of Crete at the Nativity of the Lord Metropolitan Cathedral in Chisinau.

The Compline Service with the Canon is officiated Monday to Thursday, starting at 17.00. Numerous church-goers come to the Lord’s Temple, abandoning earthly vanity and concerns, lighting a candle and praying in repentance and humility for an improved and ascended life.

The Metropolitan talked to the believers about the importance of the first week of the Great Lent through which we are entering the spiritual spring: “Only sincere repentance, abstention and spiritual food of the prayer and good acts in Christ can purify and strengthen us, helping us to become closer to God”.

On Wednesday and Friday of this week His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir and the clergy of the Cathedral will celebrate the Liturgy of Presanctified Gifts.
