Inauguration of the volume of articles presented at the National Scientific Conference “The Orthodox Church and the State: Faith and Knowledge”

Tuesday, 5 September 2017, the volume of articles presented at the National Scientific Conference “The Orthodox Church and the State: Faith and Knowledge” was inaugurated in the Assembly Chamber of the Metropolitan Residence.

Present at the event were the Arch-pastor of the Orthodox Church of Moldova, His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir, Bishop Ioan of Soroca, Vicar of the Orthodox Church of Moldova, Bishop Siluan of Orhei, Vicar of the Orthodox Church of Moldova, Archpriest Vadim Cheibas, Secretary of the Metropolis of Moldova, Archpriest Vetcislav Cazacu, Vice-rector of the Academy of Orthodox Theology of the Orthodox Church of Moldova.

The Academy of Science was represented by the President of the Academy of Science of Moldova, Academician Gheorghe Duca, Deputy President of the Academy of Science of Moldova, Academician Ion Guceac, Academician Teodor Furdui, Academician Victor Tvircun, and a group of researchers.

“Contemporary period opened new directions and perspectives in the area of relations between the Orthodox Church and Science. Released from the prison of ideological censorship, political and party control of the intellectual activity, researchers of the Academy of Science and universities, including from the Academy of Orthodox Theology of Chisinau, actively participated in the research of issues related to the history of churches and monasteries, role of faith in social life, culture, spirituality, intellectual life of the society, relations between the Church and the State, and the role of the Church in maintaining, strengthening, and development of statality.

One of specific features of this volume is the diversity of thinking, of issues approved, and substantial foundation of the promoted ideas. These determined the initiation of absolutely new directions of researches in the country, which supposes the inclusion of the scientific and ecclesiastic community into the scientific dialogue.

We believe that this exchange of ideas, historical and spiritual appreciations will essentially contribute to the development and maintaining of constructive dialogue between knowledge and faith”, underlined H.E. Metropolitan Vladimir in the inauguration message.

The volume includes scientific materials presented at the National Scientific Conference “The Orthodox Church of Moldova and the State: Faith and Knowledge”, organized for the first time by the Academy of Science of Moldova and the Metropolis of Chisinau and Moldova, on 11th October 2016.

The scientific assembly was consecrated to the 25th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Moldova.
