Friday, 24 February 2017, His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir presided the second session of the Synod of the Orthodox Church of Moldova, continuing the work of the previous session held on 17 February.

Present at the session were all archpastors of the Orthodox Church of Moldova: H.E. Archbishop Sava of Tiraspol and Dubasari, H.G. Bishop Anatolie of Cahul and Comrat, H.G. Bishop Petru of Ungheni and Nisporeni, H.G. Bishop Marchel of Balti and Falesti, H.G. Bishop Nicodim of Edinet and Briceni, H.G. Bishop Ioan of Soroca, Metropolitan Vicar, H.G. Bishop Siluan of Orhei, Metropolitan Vicar, and Archpriest Vadim Cheibas, the secretary of the Synod of the Orthodox Church of Moldova.

The Synod decided to appoint H.G. Bishop Petru of Ungheni and Nisporeni as chairman of the Synodal Commission for the drafting of the new Statute of the Orthodox Church of Moldova.

Another Synod’s decision qualified as demoralizing the intention of introducing sexual education in schools under a project implemented by Y-PEER and supported by UNFPA. Thus, the Synod members decided to address a note of concern to the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Moldova, for the purpose of excluding sexual education programs from mainstream education in our country.
