19th August 2017, On the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Nativity of the Lord Cathedral in Chisinau.
The Hierarch was assisted at the Divine Service by archpriest Vadim Cheibas, Metropolitan Secretary and Cathedral Dean, who prayed together with numerous priests, deacons, in the presence of multitudes of lay Christians.
The Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord shows us three truths: “First of all, the Transfiguration of our Lord Jesus Christ shows a relation between Christ’s suffering on the Cross and the glory of His Resurrection. Second, the Lord’s Transfiguration shows a relation between the glory of His Resurrection and the glory of His Second Coming at the end of the world, when He, as Rightful Judge, will judge the living and the dead, and His Kingdom will never end. And finally, it shows us that the humanity’s ultimate destination is not the tomb, but is eternal life in the Heavenly Kingdom.
Transfiguration of the Lord calls us to change, to renew ourselves, to enlighten our mind with good thoughts, to enlighten and warm up our hearts with pure feelings, to illuminate our life with good acts, with help, with consolation of those who are sad, with comforting of those in doubt, with supporting those who are poor and lonely. So, the Lord’s Transfiguration calls us to transfigure, that is, to radically change our lives in the spiritual matter.
Traditionally, after the Divine Liturgy on this Feast, His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir blessed the offerings of grapes and other harvests, thanking the Lord for His utmost mercy and care of the people.
